|Thank you for the Short-term English House
I had a very good time. The best thing was making friends during the three days. I was glad to see students from Yokkaichi University and Gifu Shotoku University. I’m smiling as I look at these photos.
The first day
We made our own daily meals. I found it very difficult. But we managed it by cooperating.
The second day
It has been a lot of fun and the three days have passed very quickly. This was the second time for me to take part in this English training camp. There were a lot of participants this time and we could enjoy various experiences.
We had a quiz competing for chocolates, performed skits on the beach, played a ball-passing vocabulary game and a telephone relay game, sang with a guitar, cooked recipes written in English, and lots more. I found the cooking most difficult, because it was hard to decipher the recipe, and I’m not used to cooking anyway. But our team made a delicious meal.
I found it difficult to speak English, but felt that I’d like to be able to speak more fluently. So I’ll work even harder at studying it after this English training camp.
I have a lot of memories that are fun to look back on.
My no. 1 memory is the skit, because we did not have a long time to think about it. So we had to think strenuously in a very limited time. We did a “guessing game”.
In the guessing game, we gave hints one by one and everyone had to answer. We thought up a lot of hints. For example, in one case the first hint was “yellow”, the next was “electricity”, then “red cheeks”, and finally “mouse”. The answer was “Pikachu”. Altogether we thought up four questions, some easy and some difficult. It was good.
As I participated in the overseas training event sponsored by Yokkaichi Nursing and Medical University this year, I thought my English understanding might have deepened. But I still can’t speak English well because I don’t have the chance to use English much. So I was sad. I want to build up my English abilities by using the ESL and the LES.
For the campfire program, my group did a quiz. It was very hard to think up the questions. But the experience gave us more confidence in speaking English.
In my response to the camp questionnaire, I wrote that I wanted to go on the trip to Australia. But I found that I am not able to go now, because there is a camp at the same time for one of my other classes.
This English camp was a lot of fun for me and I enjoyed it.
It was my first time to participate in an English training camp. I was very nervous, but it also gave me a chance to enjoy an exchange with other universities. I was able to use English a lot of the time and I had a good experience.
At the campfire, our team thought up quiz questions and announced them in English, and I was able to do that successfully.
We also had lots of other activities and I enjoyed the event very much. I want to take part again next year.
It’s the second time that I have come to English training camp. I learned a lot of things at this event and it was a lot of fun.
For example, we made a campfire and toasted marshmallows. This shared memory will enable us to deepen our friendship in the future. It was very well planned.
In another activity, we made a cake. It was very yummy. I want to try this again at home.
We went up to a viewpoint on the morning of the third day. The scenery from there was very beautiful.
I want to participate again next year.
Before starting out, I was really looking forward to going on this event. At first it was difficult for me to communicate with the other people, but I tried talking to them and I found it fun. It was a very short time, and I felt I wanted to stay more.
There were various activities, which I enjoyed. Some activities were useful for self-learning. I want to go on using these games in the future.
Through these activities, I found I could extend my vocabulary a little bit, and get to know about other countries. I had a wonderful and enjoyable time. Thank you for inviting us.
I was able to make a lot of friends and collect a lot of memories on this trip. My best memory is of the skit we prepared. We discussed it again and again in our group. I think this helped our friendship to grow deeper.
I enjoyed cooking with my friends in the group too. It was hard, but the meals turned out delicious.
I had many chances to use English during this trip, and it was a good experience for me. I want to join in this program again.
I’m happy that I joined in the Short-term English House event.
One good memory is making Pavlova with my teammates. It was sweet and delicious. Pavlova is a New Zealand dessert. It’s made by whisking up a “Pavlova Magic” mix with eggs. It’s very easy.
The Short-term English House was self-catering. All of the meals were made by us. We had to cut up a lot of vegetables and read the recipe notes in English. It was tiring but fun. Mr. Kirk helped to cut some vegetables. He was good with a kitchen knife.
Late at night, we talked with the Gifu Shotoku University students about English and about each other’s schools. It was interesting, we could learn a lot from each other.
On the last morning, we went for a walk near the cottages. We had a beautiful view of the blooming cherry blossoms and of Ago Bay. The Short-term English House event was fun.
